The problem with dictators is that they refuse to learn from history. Dereg just before his collapse tried to do damage control in trying to block information. Now again this Ethiopian government admits doing its best to stop VOA Amharic. It really shows the true dictatorial nature of the government. VOA has been a popular station that I myself listening for years. My information about home comes not only from Ethiopian radios which is one sided but also from VOA which is fair and balanced. I hear often VOA invites opposing views from govenment side but turned down the invitation. It is hard for me to believe that VOA has engaged in unethical journalistic behaviour as a democratic radio station subject under strict supervision.When a government reaches to this point to jam a radio station, it is a sign of frantic effort to save itself from its downfall.Communists has tried to isolate its people from free flow of information during the cold war, Jamming being their choice of weapon against their ideological enemies. Doing the same mistake of controlling information in the name of public security is to fail to learn from history. No one should be better aware of this fact than the present Ethiopian government who face an imminent ideological challenge at this time of its survival.I pray for wisdom for Ethiopian authorities to learn from past history.
